December 2022-Present - Birdhouse Singers

Colin leads a small group of proficient singers (Birdhouse Singers) singing pop arrangements of classic songs. The group has performed at various events in the Southwest.  In April 2024 Birdhouse Singers performed with local folk duo Sound of the Sirens as backing singers at Exeter Phoenix. Birdhouse Singers are available for hire for weddings, funerals, special events, flashmobs and as backing singers for bands. September 2023- July 2024 - EFP Training

Training in Estill Figures Proficiency. Colin is studying with Ian Nichols from How the Voice Works to achieve EFP in the Estill Voice Model. This training leads to an assessment in demonstrating various vocal exercises to further develop his own vocal practice. 

November 2022 - Exeter Carnival

Colin led Big Noise Chorus in a "Big Noisy Christmas" at Exeter Carnival. For a clip of the event, click on the video to your left.

Green Spaces, Dark Skies

In May 2022, Colin co-composed and led a choir of 200 voices for Green Spaces, Dark Skies project on Dartmoor. You can see the finished product please click the video to the left.

1-1 sessions focus on bespoke technical instruction to help the individual sing freely and with less effort.

Colin runs Big Noise Chorus, a collection of Community Choirs in Devon singing, Pop and Musical Theatre. All sessions are being run online during the pandemic, but once restrictions are lifted we aim to get back to live singing again.

In Dec 2019, we celebrated our 10th Anniversary with 450 singers at Exeter Cathedral. This concert also pushed our fundraising total for charity to over £100,000.

Projects

 

As well as running Big Noise Chorus, teaching in Exeter, Colin also works freelance on various musical projects from composing to leading singing groups and workshops.
In 2014 he worked at Arts Ed in London, delivering Singing Technique to Undergraduates in 1 of London's top Musical Theatre schools.`
Working alongside Speech and Language therapists, in 2015 he become involved in the world's first study into whether singing technique can be proven to aid in the feminisation of the voice for transgender clients at the Laurels in Exeter. The findings of this work were presented in Bruges in March 2015.
 
He has worked around the country with Performance group 'Extraordinary Bodies' in their performances of their acrobatic show 'Weighting'. The show involves able bodied and disabled acrobats, and features a local choir in its finale.
